How To Put In Contact Lenses

Preparation: The Foundation of Safety Before you even touch your Gothika lenses, your preparation is paramount. For over 25 years, we have emphasized that eye safety is non-negotiable. Always follow the specific instructions provided by your eye care professional.

  1. Scrub In: Wash your hands thoroughly with a mild, lint-free soap. Avoid soaps that contain heavy oils, lotions, or perfumes, as these can transfer to the lens and cause irritation.

  2. Dry Completely: Use a clean, lint-free towel. Any fibers on your fingers will find their way onto the lens and feel like a “boulder” in your eye.

  3. Inspect the Lens: Carefully remove the lens from its case. Check for any tears, debris, or if it is inside out. A lens that is “right-side out” should look like a perfect bowl with edges that turn upward; if it looks like a saucer with edges that flare out, it is inside out.

The Application: Step-by-Step Don’t rush. The “fear” of touching your eye is a natural reflex, but with the right technique, you’ll master it in no time.

  • Step 1: The Placement: Place the lens on the tip of your index finger (ensure it’s dry so the lens doesn’t stick to your finger instead of your eye).

  • Step 2: Secure the Lids: Using your middle finger of the same hand, pull your lower eyelid down. Use your other hand to gently pull your upper eyelid upward. This creates a clear “window” for the lens.

  • Step 3: The Contact: Look straight ahead or upward into a mirror and gently place the lens on the white of your eye (sclera) or directly over the iris.

  • Step 4: The Settle: Slowly release your eyelids and close your eye for a moment. Blink gently a few times to allow the lens to center itself over your pupil.

Pro Tip: If the lens feels scratchy, remove it immediately, rinse it with fresh contact lens solution, and check again for lint or debris. Never use tap water or saliva to rinse your lenses.
